Welcome to Edinburgh University New Scotland Country Dance Society! Are you interested in getting to know Scottish dancing? Or do you need a team of experienced dancers for a demonstration at your event? If yes, then this is the right place for you!
Classes

We hold classes in Scottish Country, Ceilidh, Highland and Step dancing for beginners, intermediates and experienced dancers. Just check out our classes page for more information. We do not only offer dancing classes but also many other social events and tons of fun. Every autumn we hold a freshers’ weekend somewhere outside of Edinburgh where our members have the chance to get to know each other better, try different styles of dancing, and visit new places in Scotland. We hold our own dances and ceilidhs and of course visit those other dancing societies’ events across Scotland. Each year we take part in the Inter Varsity Folk Dance Festival and international dance festivals; we also have a barbecue at Portobello beach every summer and host parties and other social events, including ice-skating, film and music evenings, and pub crawls.

Demonstration Dancers

Whether you need dancers for an elegant Scottish dance performance or to get people moving at your next ceilidh or, we can provide a team of experienced dancers for all occasions. See our bookings page for more information.

You will learn new, more unusual figures and work on your technique. This is especially important if you want to continue to performing level and join our dem team. If you are unsure whether you are at an appropriate level to join the Intermediate class, please contact the teacher, or speak to your current class teacher.
