Hey everyone!!

Time has come for the first official dance this year, the Beginners Dance. The program is especially for beginners, and we will have gone through all of the dances in our classes. If you are still not sure whether to come or not, we will have a walkthrough in the afternoon of the same day where everyone unsure about the dances can come and dance them. The afterparty is at Ulrike’s flat from the end of the dance until the early morning. There will be a group of people walking together, so if you don’t know where it is, just follow someone who knows the way. Below are the details for the Dance itself as well as the walkthrough.

Fresher’s Weekend is coming up quickly!! This is three days and three (very short) nights of dancing, silly games and having fun!! This is an event for old and new members, to get to know each other and have some amazing time together.

We are going to Oban, a small town on the west coast of Edinburgh. We will be staying at a youth hostel, which we will have to ourselves. The dancing will happen in a nearby hall. As always, we will have a costume dance with the very inventive theme: “Your Inner Child”. As places get filled pretty quickly, sign up as soon as possible!!

Leaving: 14th October 5pm Bristo Square, near Appleton Tower by bus.
Returning: 16th October 5ish same place. We will be visiting Killin on our way back, a nice little village near the Falls of Dochart.
Price: £36 Freshers/£42 Students/£46 Waged
Included: Transport, Accommodation for two nights, Meals and lots and lots of dancing

Hope to see you there.

We’ll have buses going to all the events so please remember the following dates if you’re interested in coming along:

1. May: St Andrews Castle Ceilidh: An open air Ceilidh (weather permitting) in St. Andrews castle, followed by a torchlight procession down to the pier.

4.May: Disco Ceilidh: A ceilidh of a bit different sort in Teviot with disco lights and music.

7. May: Dundee Dance. Formal ball.

14. May: New Scotland Summer Dance. A fun dance at the end of the term and probably the last chance to see some of those dancers who were only with us until the end of this term!

24. – 30. July: Dunedin Festival. Our sister group Dunedin Dancers is organizing this festival every two years with dance groups from all over Europe.

Welcome to a new term full of dancing and other social activities! Our classes will run again from next week, please do note the venue changes though! Only the classes at Lutton Place stay where they are, all other classes will be held in a different venue this term!
For step classes on Monday we have the Summerhall (Vet School), for Tuesdays St Columbas by the Castle and for Highland the Potterrow Dome.
On Wednesday, 19. January there will be a taster class at the Pleasance from 6pm – 8pm, where you can have a first try at all the different dancing styles we are teaching – and the best thing is: it is absolutely free! So if you have never danced step, highland or ceilidh and want to have a go at it, or have some friends who are curious about this, do come along!
Please do also remember that there will be lots of other events this term, like Refreshers’ Weekend, Annual Dance and IVFDF in Bristol!

Next Friday from 7:30pm we are having our Christmas party at Emma’s flat, so please do all come along!

There will be snacks provided but you’re welcome to bring more and also your own booze. It would be nice if one or two people could bring paper plates and cups as well!

As it is a Christmas party please do decorate yourself accordingly! The most tacky outfit will win a prize.

With all that slush in the streets you will not be allowed to wear shoes in the flat (we don’t want a mudfight!), so if you want to keep warm feet bring some slippers, or otherwise show off your most christmassy socks!

For address details please check out the Facebook event or contact New Scotland =).
